hunting for secrets tonight

I forgot to upload another photo I really liked from my photography work this year, so here it is. It’s my favourite portrait. He was really great for these photos! He did exactly what I asked, bwaha! I took about a billion in many different poses etc., but this one photo would have to be my most favourite out of the whole reel. He has really really lovely eyes, so I thought this style would suit him nicely. Anyway!

“Close Up” (Silver gelatin print, shot with Pentax MZ M traditional SLR)

You can view the rest of my photos that I decided to upload in this post.

Speaking of art, I have to submit a few artworks for next year and show them to my future art teacher to see if I’ll measure up for the class. I’m nervous about it, to be honest. Classes have finished for this year, and now I have loads of homework for every subject I’m taking next year: Psychology, General mathematics, Studio art, English and Health and human development

It’s not that I think I’m a terrible artist (because I’m not :P), but I have an extreme lack of materials at the moment. The most artistic thing I have right now is a single HB pencil that smudges really easily, and it’s becoming quite small because of so much sharpening. The other day I tried drawing a nekkid lady with it and it took two hours, and my hands were covered with lead afterwards. I didn’t even like it. And I really love drawing nudes. I can honestly say that I think the human body is a work of art.

I was thinking today, and I kept wondering why on Earth I like art so much. I think a quite from the dead poet Judith Wright can sum it up better than I ever could:

From the rational viewpoint, what one produces must be in some way useful. What use is poetry? It certainly does not provide a living for the poet, though it may help the book-producing trade a little. What it does, for the peot, is to express and exemplify the feeling which brought the poem into existence, that is, to help with the process of understanding one’s life and its meaning. For the reader, it can help in the same way. That is what art is for.

Reading that, I feel profoundly… Guilty. When I’m creating something I never feel. You know? My brain won’t go “I’m feeling so [input emotion here]! I’m gonna go make some art,”. Instead I’ll go “Hey, I have a cool idea. I want to translate it,”. Yet, when I’m finished (Which is a feat in itself- I’m never satisfied the art I create) I feel… Relieved, some how. As if something inside me breathes a sigh of relief. I feel I’m not passionate enough. It’s interesting: I’m feeling pressure from stereotypes created by societies view of artists.

My style of drawing is devastatingly simple. I wish I could do more complicated/detailed things. I don’t know. This won’t matter much later.

On a more cheery note, I downloaded Patrick Wolfs Lyncanthropy (His first CD). Which is awesome! Because it’s pretty rare. I wouldn’t just be able to waltz into any CD store and find it. It was worth the long search, because it’s amazing! Just… Gah. I hate to say it, but at the moment I’m loving it more than his other two CDs (Wind In the Wires and The Magic Position). Just… Sooo good! I wish I could upload the whole thing, but instead just one song: Bloodbeat. Definitely recommend it.

Oh and while using StumbleUpon I managed to find this:

I freaking love religious humour… LOL God for the win!

People always say art has “no rules” but the same people are quick to say something is not “real art” if it doesn’t fit into their definition.
    It’s BOGUS! D:

You said you don’t feel like you’re passionate enough, but maybe you could use THAT feeling to create something.

Stereotypes kind of rock, don’t they?

I’m really unartistic :P I’d rather do some math homework than draw something. I admit; to me, math feels a lot more useful than art.

Lol @ the last supper xD

Can you give me just a smidgen of your creative eye for photography? ‘Cause, my creative eye kinda really sucks. That picture and the ones in the other post are amazing. I wish I could take pictures like that.

Homework for next years classes - talk about thinking ahead!
I don’t think that you need to necessarily feel a really deep emotion when you make art, I think that it’s more just necessary to be honest when you make it. Not feeling some rollercoaster of emotions doesn’t make a piece of art better, it just makes it different. And it doesn’t make you less of an artist if that’s not the way you choose to do it, it just makes what you produce differnt to what the person that does work that way produces.

Art shouldn’t have to always be profound. You are allowed to do what you feel like doing. If it makes someone else feel something, does that mean it’s not art?

Great portrait! I do like that one. Good luck with getting some pieces together to present for that class. I’m sure you’ll be able to make some nice things even if you don’t have many materials.

And wow, that lolGod is awesome.
