I watched the third Pirates movie the other day- At World’s End. Now, I loved the first movie as much as anyone- I’m convinced Johnny Depp and I are Meant To Be- but there were two things that bugged me about the last two: Orlando Bloom, and the plot.

Yeah, Orlando Bloom. It is so damn obvious that he’s only getting great roles because he’s utterly gorgeous. Lord Of The Rings? … I actually didn’t like it (It wasn’t badly done, just not my type of film), but I could’ve thought of ten different actors who would have done the part justice. His emotional range is 1/10, where as someones like Cate Blanchett is 10/10… But he sure as heck made a sexy elf. In the second Pirates movie, his emotions were all over the place, they were irritatingly quick-changing. Depp and Knightley were good as per usual, but Bloom? The scene in which he was whipped by his father? That should be even slightly heart rending, right? Even with a performance like his? In a nutshell:

“Ow, you hurt me Daddy!”
“I did it out of love!”
“No you didn’t!”
“Yes I did!”
“Okay! I love you Daddy!”

Ugh… Just. Ugh. I truly, truly wish he would quit acting and become a world famous model instead.

The plot was actually really good for the first film, but it was less than good for the last two. In the second it was, kill me! This plot is horrible! Someone save the movie! but in the last one it was, ehhhh. It didn’t make me want to cry hysterically. The good, and bad, thing about the Pirates movies is that they all start off like they could be brilliant, then they either fail miserably, or give the audience an enjoyable movie.

In the second movie it was very exciting. The slow motion blurred shots of the rain storm, and the tea cups? And Keira Knightley looking as beautiful as ever? It could have been one of the Best Sequels Ever. But then it failed, blah. It was like the writers went, Hmmm…! We need a way to recycle the jokes from the old movie and stuff them into as many places as possible to make the painful descent into movie plot Hell as humorous as possible… I know! Let’s use this plot that doesn’t make any sense! It was like the second movie was made entirely to set up the climatic finale of the third.

Also, I watched Wah-Wah yesterday. But only because Nicholas Hoult is in it, who is in About A Boy, which is one of my favourite movies. About A Boy was the only movie I’ve ever seen him in and woooowww! I freaking love Nicholas Hoult. I love Nicholas Hoult. Hello? Where is his Oscar? He is amazing. It was great. There were some moments of darkness (a la Donnie Darko… But definitely not as dark) which made it different, and interesting. And Hoult? Oh my God. He is wonderful. His performance is so, so honest it’s like he believes he really is that character. I just want to snog him senseless. Because he rocks. So. Hardcore. The plot was unoriginal-ish though: It was all based around the whole ‘child deals with slowly breaking family’ thing. But I recommend watching it, just to see Hoult :D.

I love movies, probably a bit too much. It’s great that I’m on holidays now, because I get to watch a whole lot of movies that I wanted to watch but couldn’t before.

… Yeah, and do my massive amount of holiday homework *sigh*. I feel so guilty everytime I think about it. Eeeeeerrrrgggh.

I think my Aunty and cousin are coming from Fiji in about a week. This is exciting! The last time I saw them I was 12, and Mona Jiji (A casual term for sister in Fijian- it’s usually used by a younger cousin addressing an older female cousin) is so, so awesome. She is ridiculously smart. And she’s so much fun! Besides, they always bring presents. Moo ha ha.

I just saw on the news that they built a ‘prayer room’ at a train station. I don’t think I need to say anymore on this… But what the Hell? Completely useless, right. Sillies!
