Performance reviews

This happens, without fail, every time we have a guest over: Mum gives us performance reviews.
Today someone came over and about five minutes after she left Mum turned to me, ready to give me my Performance Review.
“Melinda,” She began “I liked how you were chatty and sociable this time, but I wish you wouldn’t make M laugh because of jokes you made about me. She’ll start every conversation with ‘Hey, do you remember that dig your daughter made about you and your…?’. Well, it was better than the last time. You didn’t even talk then,”
“… Thanks Mum”
And then she wandered off, most likely to give my brother or Dad his performance review, or to evaluate her own performance. I bet she has review check lists she fills out after every guest has left. That makes a funny mental image.
It’s one of her cute quirks! While being slightly irritating at times, it makes me laugh and wonder how she got into the habit. I think I may subconsciously take her advice an ‘improve’ a little each time someone comes over.

Haha, I guess her family’s image matters a lot to her. She doesn’t want you to show her up? It’s a mum thing, I think. My mother is a bit like that, sometimes.

Hehe, if it was me, I’d be annoyed as heck.
My mom does that sometimes, like if I made a joke about her or someone else she knows, she listens closely and yells at me later.
If I make a joke about someone she doesn’t know, she doesn’t care. o.o;

Mh, it has it’s good things that to know what you do and everything.. and sometimes it’s just too much since you are always evaluated or something like that.. or that’s how I feel sometimes.. because my mother also does that.. =/

Definitely an image thing… but it’s definitely a good approach that your mom takes… if it were me, I would have probably gotten a beating. ^_^

That’s really pretty funny. My mom never does that. She’s the Oh, whatever type. Sometimes she’s no big fan of the guests either. :P

lol… what type of job does she do? Is she management of some sort. Maybe, in these situations she thinks of you as employees with a job to do or goal to achieve :D

Oh, I think that would drive me crazy!
But I think your mom is just trying to help you develop better social skills. The great thing is that she ‘really’ communicates. :)
