I’m Not There
I saw I’m Not There yesterday. I was really excited to see it, and the trailer was cool, but ultimately I was disappointed. Oh so disappointed! You would think that a movie inspired by Bob Dylan would be good, but it was terrible.
It started off like it could be beautiful, but the whole was just eeeeeuuuurrgh. I had huge expectations (I’m a big Bob Dylan fan) but it sucked. Everytime Richard Gere was on the screen I wanted it to stop. It just wouldn’t end. It started with the autopsy of a certain character, and it seemed so natural that it should end with how that character ended up dead, but it went on after that…!
However, Cate Blanchett was awesome. They should make a short film with just her parts and maybe Ben Wishaw doing his preachy gunshot things in between too, then it would be worlds better. Cate had everything down to a tee, even the small nuances like the way Dylan held his cigarette. That part was brilliant.
Apart from that- disappointed. The only thing that was slightly funny was The Beatles and Cates dylan dubbed, at one point, to sound like chipmunks. Sigh!
…That said, I’d watch it again for Cates peformance, and I’ll buy the soundtrack sooner or later.
