Sydney report
Tired and happy, I arrive from Sydney!
Highlights
- Climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge. I did it for the adrenaline rush but, well, the extreme safety measures taken made it a little less exciting. I know it sounds strange, but I would have preferred to climb the bridge knowing that I could die. Therein lies the thrill! However, it was wonderful despite this!
- The view from our apartment. Standing on the balcony you could see half of the Opera House.
- Monet and the Impressionists.
- Bonding with friends.
- Darling Harbour and Circular Quay. They are stunning when the weather permits.
- Beaches! Manly, Palm and Bondi.
- Walking… Around. Most of this was done during shopping, and it was nice to see things that I have never seen before. (I’ve been to Sydney twice before, but I was staying in different locations each time and they weren’t for holiday purposes, per se)
- The Sydney locals. 99.9% of them are lovely and always willing to help a girl in need of directions and whatnot. Except for one woman who had a problem with waiting in a queue.
Lowlights
- The very average shopping. The majority of my shopping was done on Oxford street and the surrounding outdoor markets as well as Bondi Junction. There is a disturbing concentration of Sportsgirls. I passed one, and less than 500 metres away there was another! Is there really a need for this type of concentration?
Anyway, this made me sad, because I love to shop. I was hoping to spend a lot more on clothes than I did… The best purchase I made were two pairs of very cute flats in bubblegum bright colours at $10 each. - Realising that shared housework actually means half of the people I was staying with had no experience washing dishes. This ended with an unfair balance of housework and tension in the air when the words ‘dishes’ or ‘laundry’ were mentioned. Good thing that we spent nearly no time in the apartment!
- Also relating to friends: Realising that one of my friends (More of a tag along who I was barely acquainted with and is very boring) is possibly racist and may or may not have a problem with people who are not white… This was a problem, considering my face.
- Not being able to stay longer!
- Not being eighteen. I desperately wanted to check out nightclubs and dance the night away, but alas!
I really like that only one of the five lowlights are actually directly related to Sydney.
…And that is that!
On a school note, this is the result of working my butt off for a year in order to be accepted into elusive and extremely desirable fine art courses that will make me extremely happy: One rejection letter (I saw it coming considering the interview), One advisory letter type A aka an acception letter (…I also saw it coming considering the OMG WE LOVE YOU attitude I was getting from the artists that interviewed me) and a sad “Sorry, you have brilliant concepts and know your stuff when it comes to art, but you need to work more on your technique. You would struggle if we let you in. Come back in about two years and you could be red hot,”. Okay! There should be more news to come.
That last one made me very sad. I cried and I cried as soon as I was out of earshot. Of course I was thankful for their honesty, but it never feels good to be told you’re not good enough by people you respect utmostly. Oh well. Overall, the outlook has been okay. :)

Oh, what fun! I went to Sydney when I was 6. Couldn’t remember anything. I wish I could go to Sydney again. =/
