Katherine Moennig

Now playing: Architecture In Helsinki - Scissor Paper Rock

WOOT WOOT. Finally, new theme. Was it worth the wait? Or does it make you cringe? Does it blow you away? I hope it does!

Katherine MoennigAnd, I’m very sorry, but if you’re not completely enamoured with Katherine Meonnig then… We can’t be friends. I’m sorry. I am so in love it isn’t even cool. Is she not the hottest actress since… Ever? Just something about her… Le sigh.

You know what I hate about the way I write? I always find something good to write about when I am no where near a paper and pen. Gah. And then when I force myself to write, I can’t, or what I write is horrible. Noooo.

Have you heard of the movie My Neighbour Totoro (Tonari no Totoro)? It’s a very cute movie, meant for children… But it’s one of my favourites and I adore it! I stumbled across some fan art for it and I thought “Oh, how cute! Totoro fan art,”. That was until I clicked, and I think I kind of screamed. Warning: Extreme gore/blood, probably NSFW!

Totoro fan art by Sachsen, as opposed to this

I will never look at Totoro the same way again.

OMG MORON.

Ugh, I completely suck, don’t I? But I’m back! To make a long, boring story short: Something that was bugging me about my FTP finally made me crack it, so I decided to investigate and, instead of prevailing over The Ebil FTP Demon I instead crashed and burned and my head exploded and I vomited at the same time. I summoned the help of Higher Powers (again!), and after a few clicks and emails my blog is back on track.

The annoying thing about this is that I completely get WordPress… It’s just the installation I don’t get. I read and re-read the codex many times and tried and tried and tried (and tried), but for some reason I always managed to royally screw up somewhere along the way. Confounding, isn’t it? The whole thing makes me feel dumber than Jessica Simpson after she questioned the difference between chicken and tuna.

hunting for secrets tonight

I forgot to upload another photo I really liked from my photography work this year, so here it is. It’s my favourite portrait. He was really great for these photos! He did exactly what I asked, bwaha! I took about a billion in many different poses etc., but this one photo would have to be my most favourite out of the whole reel. He has really really lovely eyes, so I thought this style would suit him nicely. Anyway!

Folio!

I finally got to scan my photography folio for this term. So, finally, I get to post a few of my pictures up on the Intarwebz. I couldn’t scan all of them, because there are so many, so I just chose my favourites :). I took them all with my darling SLR, Rufus! (You can see a picture of his model here)

The main theme for these photos was city/urban living. They were all taken in the CBD, and the photos are about half the size of an A4 piece of paper. Rufus is a traditional SLR, I used black and white film, and printed them all on silver gelatin.

(The above was just for my own reference)

I felt slightly nostalgic as I uploaded these. I mean, I won’t be doing photography next year! But I will still have my SLR ♥. There will be no way in Hell for me to photograph and paint at the same time, it would just be too much work. However, on the upside, I really really adore painting. I love it more than photography! I guess I just wanted to try something new this year, and something that was a bit more challenging. Not that painting is easier than photography, it’s just that I’ve been doing painting for a very long time, so I know what looks good and I’ve been taught colour theory. So, with black and white photography, there would be no need to use colour theory, for obvious reasons.

Anyway! Onto the photos. (They are quite large, for those with slower connections)

“Graffiti” (Silver gelatin print, shot with Pentax MZ M traditional SLR)“’Scape” (Silver gelatin print, shot with Pentax MZ M traditional SLR)“Zoom” (Silver gelatin print, shot with Pentax MZ M traditional SLR)“Scene” (Silver gelatin print, shot with Pentax MZ M traditional SLR)

For the last one, I put a really scuffed up piece of acetate on top of it before I printed it, so that explains the scratches. So, they are intentional! I wanted something sort of dirty looking, with that mood. You know what I mean. Including the person in the shot was entirely intentional, too, as it would have no comparison whatsoever.

You know, sometimes I wonder about some of the keys on a computer keyboard. Scroll lock, for instance. Who would need scroll lock? Has anyone ever actually used scroll lock? I mean, someone must have been scrolling all over the place, and got totally out of control and got scared of their uncontrollable scrolling, so they invented scroll lock. I, for one, have never uttered the phrase “Thank God for scroll lock! Good thing someone invented that key,”.

On the other hand, there are some Internet things that I can’t imagine functioning without: Mozilla Firefox. GMail. Google. Actually, did you know that there is a Church Of Google? Forget agnosticism, I’m a Google Follower now XD!

Found on the arguments page:

So, if Google told you to go jump off a bridge, would you do it?

If someone told you that after you die, you’re going to live ‘forever’ in peace and harmony in the sky, would you believe them?

*cracks up*

I probably found that a bit too gut-bustlingly hilarious for it to be false. “BEHOLD, FOR SHE INDEXES OVER 9.5 BILLION WEB PAGES!”

Ooh, and this is interesting: How many times the terms ‘google’ and ‘god’ are searched in Google in comparison to each other.

What sites/services on the Internet could you not imagine functioning without?

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

I submitted my photography portfolio the other day. In all honesty, my passion for it has dulled a bit. I realise now that I wasn’t really that serious about photography as a career, but I still like it a lot as an art. Next year is pretty cool- we have one big arts class, and we each go off and do whatever medium we want! Awesome. I can’t wait.

Well. Actually… I love portraiture so much. Black and white portraiture has stolen my sooouul! Unfortunately, I have an extreme lack of willing subjects. Well, actually, I have an extreme lack of subjects who have the right look I’d like to photograph. I’m really picky! So, I’ll probably do painting/drawing/sculpture next year. Speaking of drawing, JaJa inc. is going really well. I’ve submitted about 5-7 designs for t-shirts, and they seem to like them a lot.

I don’t want to jinx it, but I’m thinking of doing a written section or something. Opinion pieces, articles, reviews on books and CD’s etc. I want to, but I always seem to run out of time. Arrgh.

I had a dream in which there was a game show, but it was hosted by dinosaurs. They looked like the cute characters from Hello Kitty, except they were in… Dinosaur form. One of the dinosaurs was dressed in a red dress, a lot like The Woman In The Red Dress from The Matrix. I don’t remember any of the (human) contestants winning anything. They just pressed their buzzers and said things like “Four squared!” and “True!”. What! I don’t even like Hello Kitty. I don’t watch game shows. (However, I did like The Matrix)
