Now playing: The Dresden Dolls - Girl Anachronism
For a while I’ve been working on setting up a new writing portfolio- Breathings Of The Heart was just getting too luncheon meat-ish and I’m starting to hate CuteNews because I’m so used to using something better. Spam is the bane of every bloggers existence…
The writing portfolio is now here: Vocalize! I doubt that many people actually read the writing there, but for those who do… It’s now here. I’m satisfied. It’s more organized and neat. Most of all- It’s spam free! Yes.
I am searching for cinemas near me that are playing I’m Not There. Haven’t been successful yet. I’m going to diiiiie if I don’t ever get to see Cate Blanchett play one of the greatest folk musicians of all time!
I also watched Brokeback Mountain a few days ago. All I have to say is: What’s the big deal? It’s a great movie, but… I don’t see why it was such srz biznizz when it came to the male/male love scenes! Maybe I’m wrong, but that’s happened a lot with actresses? I’m sure there’s the female equivalent in Grindhouse… Or American Pie? Either way, I hope that it becomes recognized for being a good movie that happens to be about two gay men, instead of being recognized for being a movie about two gay men that happens to be good. It deserves it!

My top albums of 2007. You knew it had to come, the music addict I am. Let’s find a way to liquefy it so I can just hook it up to my veins and mmmmmmm. Instead of listing the albums recorded this year that made me squee, I am instead going to type the albums that I squeed over this year, that were not necessarily recorded this year. In no particular order:
- Various Artists- Lost In Translation OST
- Patrick Wolf- Lycanthropy
- Death Cab For Cutie- Plans
- Sufjan Stevens- Come On Feel The Illinoise!
- The Velvet Underground- White Light/White Heat
- John Mayer- The Village Sessions
- Frédéric Chopin- The Best Of Chopin
- Performed by The Kronos Quartet, composed by Clint Mansell- Requiem For A Dream OST
- Bloc Party- A Weekend In The City
- Sigur Rós- Takk…

I watched the third Pirates movie the other day- At World’s End. Now, I loved the first movie as much as anyone- I’m convinced Johnny Depp and I are Meant To Be- but there were two things that bugged me about the last two: Orlando Bloom, and the plot.

Yeeeeeaaaahh, new theme. Is it lame that I get all excited every time I make one? Glee, fluidity! :D
Also, I watched Alfie (Starring the incredibly cute Jude Law) and it sucked. So. Much.It was like being dragged through three hours of Cockney accents, naked ladehs and underwear. Ugh. Sucky. The only thing good about it was Jude Law and Sienna Miller, who were both really nice to look at. Fortunately, I have borrowed the Science Of Sleep (Directed by Michel Gondry, who rocks my socks) and Nobody Knows, which won a ‘Festival De Cannes’ Best Actor Award. Also, it apparently is one of the saddest films in the known universe.
Except for that scene in The Wizard Of Oz where Dorothy first meets those horrible, orange, mutated creatures (Otherwise known as Munchkins) in their magical fairy land. I shed a tear.
I was walking home the other day with two friends and there was a dead cat on the side of the nature strip. It was ripped open or something. It looked as though a car had run over it, then the person realised they had just killed a cat, and shoved it out of the way to avoid being found out. Come of think of it, that cat was really big. More like a very small pony than a cat. It was also overweight. Hm. I saw it first, and started shrieking like a banshee, to which my friends went “Whaaa…?!” and they they saw the Dead Obese Feline and we all shrieked together, like the weird sisters from Macbeth if they had actually melted. I’m making too many pop-culture references! Arrrrgh!
To finish, I’ve discovered that I really really dislike it when people put nearly anything down to homophobia. “He’s against gay marriage?! Homophobe! Die, die, die!”. Which is actually pretty coincidental, since a day or so after I was thinking about this, I stumbled across this great article on Zombot.org. Which explains my point without any “Grrr!” and grinding of teeth between sentences. Woo-hoo!
I shouldn’t have blabbed about writing some articles and opinion pieces, because now I realise I have no time this weekend (It’s Friday again.). Nooooo! I feel like I’m breaking a promise or something.

So, the thing is, we moved house.
I know, right? It was really unexpected. Weelll. Okay. Maybe it wasn’t too unexpected, but it happened really quickly. I had always known that we were going to move house sometime, but when we did Dad and I had no idea what the mysterious house looked like because of our busy schedules. Fortunately, the house is lovely! I was really adamant about getting a room with a big window, just because I like to look outside and all, and I got my treasured window :D. Erm. We’ve been here about a month now, and it’s all going good. So, that explains the long absence and all.
In school news, our literature class (Not English, but I do that too) finished off an outcome that I was reeeeaally nervous about. It counted for 60% of our marks, so yay that we finished it. We had to “respond creatively” to a selection of texts- The Great Gatsby, Much Ado About Nothing, Judith Wright Collected Poems and Bypass. I chose to do Gatsby and I would explain what I’ve written, but it’s quite complicated if you haven’t actually read the book. I really love Literature. It’s like the psychology behind English.
I watched the film Requiem For A Dream. Wow, what a film. It isn’t a horror movie or anything, but it’s so striking and shocking. Not for the faint-hearted! It makes for some pretty tough viewing, especially the famed Black Arm scene. Luckily I watched it with a friend, whose circulation I probably cut off after grabbing his arm extraordinarily tight during the more intense scenes. Haha. If you plan on watching it, don’t watch at night, or alone, and bring many cute stuffed toys. I ended up pausing it and fetching my plush duck, Patrick, who seemed to handle it pretty well XD. And, also, the soundtrack is brilliant. It’s innovative, cold, and it totally suits the film. I must admit, I enjoyed looking at Jared Leto even though he was incredibly skinny (I read he had to shed a fifth of his body weight to play the part). I highly recommend watching it, just for the experience of feeling as though you’ve been shaken around a lot without actually moving. I want to watch π next, (It’s directed by the same person) but reading about it makes look worse than Dream. Oh well. It can’t be as bad as A Clockwork Orange.
I was planning to write more, but, again I’ve run out of time. Damn.
